How Will Physiotherapy Help Me?

Our physical therapists or physiotherapists at our physiotherapy centres in Penang and Seberang Jaya offer assessment, treatment for injury and rehabilitation so you can walk, work or get back into sports again.

Our qualified physiotherapists work hand in hand with our orthopaedic surgeon and other resident specialists such as podiatrist to help you with your neck pain/stiffness, arthritis, slipped disc, whiplash, shoulder pain, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI), ankle and foot sprain, plantar faciitis, runner’s knee and much more.

Our centre is decked out with the top-of-the-line HUR brand equipment which use air resistance technology, allowing rehabilitation to begin as early as possible after surgery or injury. We use this line extensively in our physiotherapy and rehabilitation centre because HUR equipment uses air as resistance to reduce stress on joints and connective tissues, and it works muscles more specifically.

Resistance can be set at zero and adjusted ‘steplessly’ to facilitate passive and assisted mobilisation, allowing rehabilitation to begin as early as possible after surgery or injury.

The result is safer, more effective exercise for people of all ages and abilities – the elderly, the young and the athletic.

The scientifically researched HUR equipment is registered with The National Agency for Medicines in Finland.

Professional Advice & Therapy

Physiotherapy and rehabilitation related to specific areas of your musculoskeletal system (bones, muscles, ligaments, tendons, cartilage, spine and joints) affected by pain, injury, disease or trauma will be prescribed.

Our physiotherapist will guide you in performing therapeutic exercises when you come in for your appointments. He/she will monitor your progress and adjust treatment accordingly.

Usually, physiotherapists prescribe exercises which help you improve your mobility, strength and posture.

Rehabilitation is not just confined to sports people. It is also necessary if you’ve had surgery especially surgeries of the knee, shoulder and spine. Patients who need chest and cardiac rehabilitation as well as stroke rehabilitation and paediatrics also come to us.

Non-impact exercise is the mainstay of our rehabilitation programme.

Our physiotherapists can help you with:

  • Paediatric & intensive care
  • Stroke & spinal injury
  • Sports injuries
  • Backache & manipulative spine techniques
  • Cardiac physiotherapy & rehabilitation (bypass surgery or stenting)

Difference Between a Chiropractor and a Physiotherapist

A chiropractor concentrates mainly on the spine and resolves pain through the spinal region. A number of pain relief therapies are used which requires the patient to continuously visit the chiropractor in order to maintain the alignment of the patient’s spine to alleviate the pain. Thus, the pain relieved is only short-term.

A physiotherapist’s aim is to treat a specific injury and reduce pain so that in time the patient will be able to function normally and return to their daily activities. A number of methods are used for various injuries but mainly to increase the patient’s range of motion.

This can be exercises and stretches where the patient is able to do at home in between visits to the physiotherapist. As the pain subsides and the range of motion improves, such visits will be reduced gradually until it is no longer required.

The physiotherapist will then inform the patient to come in for maintenance visits every 6 months or so. This differs from the treatment given by a chiropractor in that it concentrates on long-term relief of pain and complete healing.

Charges & Rates

Our current minimum physiotherapy charge is RM60 with each treatment lasting about 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Physiotherapy is charged based on the number of parts treated. For example, if your hand is treated, it is considered as 1 part. However, if your hand and leg are treated, they are considered as 2 parts.

Your Healing Process

How fast will you heal or how many treatments will you need? It depends on how severe the injury is. The duration or treatment period varies from one person to another.

Some may only take 2 weeks to heal while others, perhaps a month. It also depends on your ability and discipline to do the exercises prescribed by the physiotherapist while recuperating at home.
